Lasagna, what have they done to you?
Oh the high hopes I had! Might by why I’m so hard on it, but this lasagna was a let down. I’m a HUGE HUGE HUGE fan of Trader Joe’s turkey Bolognese and it was my go to for a fast amazing lasagna. Went to make it and saw it was no longer in stores, heartbreak. Saw this and thought sure! Not as good but probably pretty damn good! Alas, was wrong. Also a little harsh as its new years and trying to eat healthy, feels like a wasted cheat meal which is the bane of any dieters existence.
Frozen it looks great and prep is just peeling two corners, preheating your oven, and baking for 60-65 minuets. After you just let it rest for 10 minuets, I’d recommend waiting around 20 if you can to let it solidify as much as possible. Super simple diner to pop in and forget about till its time, and once ready it looked great too! The outside got that sexy darkened cheese color while the middle looked bubbly. So excited to cut into this! But then…..
The pain! The horror! The misery! You can see the liquid in the cut out corner, which is something you don’t want to see with lasagna. It not only needs more sauce but needs more flavor to the sauce. Which is mind boggling since Trader Joe’s pasta sauces are all great, and that damn turkey Bolognese amazing! The noodles were cooked well and cheese was ok but bland as well. Again—Trader Joe’s has amazing cheese! How is this so plain tasting. Had a piece and sadly preferred any other frozen lasagna over this. Just so bland!
First bad review—but not viewing it like that! It’s a try harder TD opinion, this lasagna feels like an under seasoned after thought. 2/10 and not getting it again, going to hope and wait for that amazing Bolognese to return and can create fast easy amazing lasagna.
