Gnocchi and Pizza Roll in One!
Trader Joe’s outside in stuff gnocchi is EVERYTHING! Normally im not a fan of gnocchi, know there a TD fan favorite but have just never been my thing. These however changed everything :0 I’ve tried the Kale and Cauliflower and the taste/nutrition just never lived up to expectations. Even restaurant gnocchi always just seem heavy to me and would always choose a pasta. These babies change it all, who would have thought!
Nutrition and cooking style
Nutrition isn’t terrible, 180 calories and serving or 630 a bag. There’s a lot in this bag which makes it a pretty sweet deal, plus having cheese and sauce inside means you don’t need much to top them with. They show stove top and microwave as cooking methods but I thought what about air frying them? They look like pizza rolls, have similar ingredients to them, why cant they be a version of them! Totino’s pizza rolls have 37 calories a roll so your getting more bang for your buck here by far. Also tried stove top cause need to give them a solid chance all around 🙂
Cook those bad boys!
On the left we have the air fry method. Pre-heat your air fryer to 400 degrees and dump them in straight from the bag, spaced out of course. Cook for 8 minuets and you should see a little cheese coming out and crisp on the outside. That-is-it! They are ready to go! Since there more for snacking I put them on a plate with a little marinara dipping sauce. Boom! Fast amazing treat. On the right is the stove top method. Heat your pan with a little oil, add the gnocchi straight from the bag, drizzle a little more oil. Sauté for 1-2 minuets, add 4 tablespoons of water and cover. Cook for 3-4 minuets and the water should get absorbed, shake the pan back and forth to prevent them from sticking. You’ll see a nice crisp on the outside and they are ready to plate! I topped them with a little more olive oil and that’s it.
So how are they?
Both 10/10 winners! Oh my god these are so good. Starting on the left is the air fried, and they really feel like bougie pizza rolls. They taste fresher and elevated if I may, like the adult version of pizza rolls. My son liked them and I felt way better giving him these then a pizza roll, and they would be perfect for a party. So easy to cook and a perfect pick up app. The outside has a little crisp but is soft as well, the cheese and sauce inside is a perfect balance. There so easy to just pop in your mouth and don’t leave you feeling greasy. Better then I thought, blowing pizza rolls away. I thought even less of the stove top version and was so so wrong! The texture on these is my favorite of the two and it could easily be an actual meal. These work as both a snack and a meal which is insane! The little olive oil topping is perfect, can add some parmesan cheese to make it a complete dish for lunch or dinner. They don’t need anything more. SUCH a surprise and these will be living in our freezer from now on. Get them!
